Pine Party Public Transport Reform Policy
Auckland is our biggest city with well known frustrations with the current Auckland Transport. It is crucial we act swiftly to ensure the people of Auckland have reliable, cheap and efficient transport.
We have seen in many other cities that investing fast and early leads to an early uptake and sustained use of public transport. Our transport plan will take current Auckland transport and elevate it to another level, not only making it cheaper but more environmentally friendly. Helping Auckland transition into a low carbon city by 2050.
Our future transport plan includes policies like:
1. Affordable Public Transport
2. Sustainable public transport
3. Increased funding into public transport
4. Revising the current transport routes

Our future transport plan includes policies like:
1. Affordable Public Transport
- Ensuring access to cheap and reliable transport is one of the most important factors for an increase uptake in Public Transport (Welch, 2022).
- We aim to ensure every person in this country has the means to access public transport, ensuring opportunities for every citizen of New Zealand (Welch, 2022).
- We will also provide further discounts to elderly and students- making it almost free for both of these groups as they are the future of this country and we need to invest to ensure they are given the best opportunities possible.
2. Sustainable public transport
- As well as making public transport affordable, the Pine Party will be looking to make public transport throughout New Zealand fully carbon neutral, this would ensure that we are striving towards our 100% renewable 2030 goal set for energy (S&P Global, 2022).
- Sustainable transport would also ensure we have reliability and less cancellations as there.
3. Increased funding into public transport
- We have identified that many people do not take public transport because of the reliability and the risk of being late- because of this we will be making sure to create a reliable transport system using Japan as an example to build on.
- With more funding into public transport we will invest into infrastructure and staff- this creates better work environments for staff leading to less cancellations due to staff shortages (Welch, 2022).
- With increased investment into infrastructure would also make a modern and reliable transport network which would encourage many to start using public transport instead of private vehicles.
4. Revising the current transport routes
- Many complaints are had between councils and pedestrians around the routes that busses take, in our policy we will revise all routes so everyone has access to public transport within a 10 minute walk.
- This would increase accessibility thus increase opportunity for all New Zealanders.
- This would also encourage more people to use the network as they know they can reliably use it to travel anywhere in the city
- This policy would connect the whole city.
